It gave me the confidence to unstick myself from unsure footing in new technology, internet tutorial overload, and old ways of doing color that took twice as long and limited me from making the Slow Motion clips I was shooting. Truly understanding Color was such a game-changer for me. So I decided to make it! I began making this workshop in 2017, and I’m thrilled to finally release it and invite you in to learn with me. Nothing had everything all in one place, or provided any option for a friendly group, daily guidance, accountability, live chats, or feedback. Without color basics, isolated tutorials leave you floating, hoping your color looks good, but not surely knowing if it’s accurate, why it’s accurate, and the difference between stylizing and correcting. I also found a few creative color learning options, but none of them taught the foundation of color or provided the technical knowledge in context of that foundation.

What I found was a lot of men, a lot of intimidating technical jargon, and very little actual hands-on how-to videos that show you how to do these things, especially in context of shooting just by yourself. And I checked them all out to see what was available.

Workshop includes my rubric-based evaluation and feedback, as well as one group live video Q&A chat just with our class, which will be recorded & posted in the workshop, and I check in and answer questions in the comments 6 days/week. This new workshop runs live in small groups for 5 weeks and takes all the intimidation out of color, explaining everything in full detail, starting with zero expectation of video color knowledge, ending with several completed exercises and one color-graded and color-corrected film. Instead of selling you LUT Adjustments for you to waste money and time on, we just show you how to adjust your clips yourself (and how to not overdo it) - for free! We admit that no preset or LUT is a magic bullet! Depending on the light your clip was shot in, you may need to adjust the exposure, white balance, etc. Our Low Light LUTs (Reveal and Low Light in Group I Understanding and Empathy in Group II) keep noise out when you bring out details from the shadows. Our LUTs are organized from most impactful to most subtle, so you can start by trying out the first ones on higher-contrast clips, last ones on soft-lit clips, etc.
